Lead Pastor

Jon Whitlock

Jon Whitlock serves as Lead Pastor of First Southern Baptist Church of Wickenburg, Arizona. Born and raised in New Jersey by loving parents, Jon first heard the gospel as a teenager. After years of wandering and struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, God graciously drew him to faith in Jesus Christ, changing the course of his life. Through Scripture and his own experience of God’s mercy, Jon has come to treasure God’s sovereign grace, steadfast faithfulness, and power to redeem broken lives.

In 2014, Jon and his wife, Kimberly, found a spiritual home at Bethel Southern Baptist Church in Escondido, California, where he grew in faith through prayer, discipleship, and service. After working in construction for most of his life, Jon answered God’s call to full-time ministry in 2019. He served as an elder, pastor to senior adults, and associate pastor at Bethel before God led him to Wickenburg. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Gateway Seminary.

Jon is committed to expositional preaching through entire books of the Bible, allowing God’s Word to set the agenda and shape the life of the church. He seeks to help people know Christ, grow in grace, and live for God’s glory, trusting the Holy Spirit to transform lives through Scripture. His desire is to shepherd with humility, care for people personally, and equip the church to serve Christ joyfully.

Jon and Kim have been married since 2015 and are grateful to serve together. Outside of ministry, Jon enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing, and hunting.
